One person was taken to the hospital Friday morning with serious injuries following a crash between an Essex-Windsor EMS ambulance and a dark-colored SUV.
The Windsor Police, Essex-Windsor EMS paramedics and firefighters responded to the scene on Lauzon Road and Tranby Avenue at around 8:30 a.m.
The ambulance only sustained front-end damage on the driver’s side and was fortunately not transporting any patients at the time of the accident. The SUV was found with extensive damage on its driver’s side with the driver trapped inside. Windsor firefighters had to cut off the roof of the vehicle in order to free the driver. The motorist was rushed to the hospital while the occupants of the ambulance remain uninjured.
The intersection remained closed for some time while first responders worked to assess and secure the scene. The cause of the accident is still under investigation at this time.
