Last night, there was a fatal accident at the Walker Road underpass involving a Chevy Cavalier and a Chevy Trax. The accident also left two other people with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash sent both vehicles over the sidewalk and into the underpass wall at the intersection’s northeast corner. The occupant of one vehicle was unconscious after the crash and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Although Windsor police did not release the name of the victim, friends and family members identified him on social media. He worked at Ventra Assembly and graduated from a local Catholic High School.
The section of roadway where the crash occurred – Walker Road and Grand Marais Road East – was reopened at 2:30 a.m. after accident reconstruction specialists and forensic officers examined the scene.
However, the investigation of this accident will continue and witnesses to the crash are being asked to contact Windsor Police.
The area where the accident occurred has a huge amount of traffic each day. According to studies by the City of Windsor, up to 30,000 vehicles are on this stretch of road each day. The speed limit on this stretch of Grand Marais Road is 60 km/h.
Part of the reason there is so much traffic is that the FCA Canada Windsor Assembly Plant is just northeast of the intersection. This plant occupies 50 acres.
