A 20-year-old female motorist and one male passenger were injured after a head-on collision on Friday morning. Another male motorist involved in the incident fled on foot.
The Essex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the accident scene on Highway 3, in front of Country Meadows Cemetery between Victoria Ave. and Maidstone Ave. shortly after 12 p.m. The male driver of a silver minivan was traveling westbound when he attempted to try and pass another vehicle and collided head-on with the female driver’s dark sedan going eastbound. Both vehicles ended up in the ditch.
Both occupants of the sedan were taken to a local area hospital. The female driver has life-threatening injuries while her male passenger has serious injuries. The male driver of the second vehicle did not remain at the scene or appear injured. He fled up the road and has yet to be located.
The OPP’s technical collision investigators continue to investigate the scene and are asking any witnesses present during the time of the accident to please contact them at 1-888-310-1122 or send a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
The scene on Highway 3 between Victoria Avenue and Maidstone Avenue West is currently still closed in either direction.
