Two people died and three others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision that happened in Lakeshore near Belle River Road on Friday night.
Lakeshore OPP responded to reports of a crash along the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 at approximately 7:25 p.m. According to the Blackburn News, police stated that the incident occurred when two passenger cars crashed into a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).
Two individuals from one of the vehicles died from their injuries at the crash scene. Occupants in the second vehicle involved in the collision sustained only minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The driver of the CMV was transported to hospital nearby with injuries that were reportedly non-life-threatening.
Police are not releasing the identities of the deceased at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
An Investigation is Ongoing
Lakeshore OPP and members of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team are working together on the investigation.
The eastbound traffic lanes of Belle River Road, which had been closed to traffic, reopened again at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
The investigation is ongoing, and OPP ask the public to help police by providing any further details they may have about the incident.
