One person was killed and another was injured in a four-vehicle collision involving three tractor trailers on Highway 401 around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigation, a white Volvo tractor trailer traveling westbound on Highway 401 slammed into the back of a white Oldsmobile SUV, which was stopped in traffic. The impact pushed the vehicles into two other tractor trailers.
The 19-year-old driver of the SUV, and lone occupant in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. A driver of one of the tractor trailers was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The accident occurred in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Cabana Road in Tunnel 5, just north of the Todd Lane overpass and just east of the link to the Herb Gray Parkway.
Westbound traffic was closed until 1 a.m. while OPP investigated the scene. The investigation remains ongoing and criminal charges are pending, according to police.
