A Pine Hills Trailways bus leaving Toronto and bound for New York City has been involved in a serious accident that has resulted in the hospitalization of 27 people.
According to reports, the bus collided with a tractor trailer and also a car while headed southbound on I-81 just near Nedrow, south of Syracuse.
While the cause of the accident is yet to be fully determined, sources have indicated that the driver of the 18 wheeler had pulled over to help the driver of the car, which had just crashed. The bus then collided into both vehicles.
Authorities have also advised that the driver of the car has since been charged with impaired driving.
31 of the 52 people on the bus were from the Toronto leg of the journey…
Of the 54 people that were in the accident, 52 of them were from the tour bus, while 26 passengers and the bus driver were taken to a local hospital with various injuries. The bus driver sustained serious injuries and was reportedly trapped behind the wheel for hours while rescue crews tried to free him from the wreckage.
At this stage, there have thankfully been no fatalities and the investigation continues.
