The report compared the number of accidents on all roads throughout the city from 2009 to 2013. An interactive map provides a visual of the results.
According to the study, the three most dangerous intersections based on traffic volume are:
- County Road 42 and Lauzon Parkway
- Pelissier Street and Wyandotte Street West
- Lauzon Line/McHugh Street and Lauzon Road
The study also showed that the three intersections with the most collisions within the five-year period are:
- Banwell Road and E C Row Expressway, recording 125 accidents
- Tecumseh Road East and Walker Road, with 97 wrecks
- Howard Avenue and Tecumseh Road East, which had 94 crashes
Results show that the majority of accidents in 2013 occurred during the day and in dry conditions, and one third of accidents happened between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Whens the safest time to drive? Between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. as less than 20 percent of accident happened during the night. The good news is that the number of fatal collisions and alcohol-related collisions are below the citys average. However, the area is becoming more dangerous for bicyclists, with a 16 percent increase in accidents in 2013 when compared to the five-year average.
